Maxine Gail Fisher

Maxine Fisher, 88, of Zearing passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Zearing. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at Fredregill Funeral Home, in Zearing. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg.

Maxine Gail Fisher was born September 4, 1923 in Highmore, South Dakota to Charles Lisle and Loretta (Lawlor) Swanson. She graduated from Highmore High School and attended South Dakota State University for one year.  She then went to the University of Minnesota, graduating with three diplomas - Graduate Nurse, Bachelors in Science, and a major in Public Health Nursing.  In 1979, at the age of 56, she obtained her Master's in Education.

She met her husband, Ernest Fisher, at the University of Minnesota.  He was a P-38 pilot in WW 2. After returning from the service he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in science. Ernest and Maxine were married on January 1, 1947 in Mankato, Minnesota. The couple had five children - Ernie, Tim, Elizabeth, Becky and Lori.

Maxine was a long time resident of Zearing, IA and taught in the Marshalltown Community School System from 1970 to 1990.  She was a registered nurse at Colonial Manor in Zearing before retiring in 1993.  She was a member of the PEO Chapter NE of Nevada, IA; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #334 of McCallsburg; Sorosis club of Zearing; member of the Civic Improvement Club in Zearing; and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg.

Maxine is survived by two sons - Ernest Fisher, Jr. of Ames, IA and Timothy (Kirsten) Fisher of Manassas, VA;  three daughters - Elizabeth (David) Rasmusson of St. Anthony, IA; Rebecca (Joel) Coats of Ames, IA; Loretta (Clark) Smith of Colo, IA; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; 1 brother - Charles (Sandy) Swanson of Fort Perre, South Dakota; two sisters - Merrie (Marshall) Miller of Pierre, South Dakota; Harriett (Dallas) Street of Gillette, Wyoming.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and also her husband Ernest Fisher in January of 1994.
